Morning Routines

[M]

The morning's arrived with a steady routine,
A blank slate of hours, predictable, clean.
The world is awake and beginning to move,
Just waiting for everyone to find their groove.
Or so I had hoped: but the fantasy dies
The second the screen light hits both of my eyes.
For who am I kidding with "orderly, clean"?
My calendar's packed and it's looking obscene.

An influx of emails: thank god for TL;DR,
Can't imagine reading them all, I really wouldn't get far.
First one I click on is an engineering thread, a hundred deep in the heap,
I swear they just tagged me to disrupt my sleep.
I'm chasing the caffeine to find some control,
Before checking my queue for its regular toll.
One refresh to see what the tickets unfold,
And face the sheer horror today's shift will behold.

So here is a frantic, authentic hello,
Sent your way as the dumpster fire gets into its flow.
May your coffee be stronger than the fires we fight,
And may we survive from now until night.
Good morning!!
